An important pair of mahogany armchairs after a design by Thomas Chippendale circa 1755-60. A known set of chairs with identical backs attributed to Chippendale were made for Nostell Priory in Yorkshire and Temple Newsom House in Leeds. Norman Adams also bought the suite from Winkburn Hall, Newark, Nottinghamshire. That suite is featured in Norman Adams book, ppg 48-49 "18th Century English Furniture, the Norman Adams Collection" by Stevens and Whittington. English, circa 1760.
